How to downgrade iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 6.1.3 ipad 2

I was using iPad 2 for a long time and it was running on iOS 9.3.5.
Over time the device became very slow. Apps took time to open and scrolling was not smooth. Using it daily was not comfortable.

So I decided to downgrade my iPad 2 from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 6.1.3.
Below is how I did it, explained step by step in a simple way

  • This method works only for iPad 2

  • Do not try this on other iPads

  • Backup your data before starting

  • Follow the steps slowly, no rush

First thing I did was download the firmware.

  • Download iOS 6.1.3 firmware for iPad 2

  • Use the download link provided

  • Wait until the download is fully completed

  • Save the file on your PC (Desktop or any easy folder)

  • This file will be used later in 3uTools

Next important step is jailbreak.

  • Jailbreak is required for this downgrade

  • To downgrade we need kDFU mode

  • kDFU tool is available only inside Cydia

  • Cydia comes only after jailbreak

  • So jailbreak is mandatory

To jailbreak the iPad:

  • Open Safari on the iPad

  • Go to carbon.sep.lol

  • If it asks to install a certificate or profile

  • Install the profile

  • Go to Settings and trust the profile

  • Come back to Safari

  • Tap Run

Sometimes it will not work the first time.

  • If nothing happens, try again

  • If iPad restarts, try again

  • After successful jailbreak, Cydia will appear on home screen

After jailbreak is done:

  • Open Cydia

  • Let it load and refresh

  • Add this source: repo.tihmstar.net

  • Search for kDFU

  • Install kDFU

Next step is entering kDFU mode.

  • Open the kDFU app

  • Follow the instructions shown

  • After few seconds the screen will turn black

  • Black screen is normal

  • This means the iPad is now in kDFU mode

Now the PC part starts.

  • Connect iPad to PC using USB cable

  • Open 3uTools

  • You can use the latest version of 3uTools

  • No need to install old version

Inside 3uTools:

  • Go to Flash & JB

  • Open Pro Flash

  • Click Import Firmware

  • Select the iOS 6.1.3 firmware file downloaded earlier

  • Click Flash

  • When warning shows, click Flash Anyway

  • Flashing process will start

  • Do not disconnect USB cable

  • Do not close 3uTools

  • Wait patiently

  • Process takes around 10 minutes

After flashing is finished:

  • iPad will restart automatically

  • Apple logo will appear

  • Setup screen will load

  • iPad will boot into iOS 6.1.3

After downgrade:

  • Performance feels better

  • Old classic iOS look is back

  • Animations are smoother

  • iOS 6.1.3 works well for iPad 2

Small note about jailbreak:

  • Carbon jailbreak is semi untethered

  • If you restart the iPad, jailbreak will be disabled

  • To enable jailbreak again:

    • Open Safari

    • Go to carbon.sep.lol

    • Tap Run

This is how I downgraded my iPad 2.
Sharing this in case it helps someone who is still using this device.

Take your time and follow each step carefully.
